Father, son rescued after boat capsizes during duck hunting accident

A father and son were rescued from Duck Lake in St. Martin Parish yesterday morning (Dec. 27) after the pair’s boat capsized during a duck-hunting trip, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries reported.

Russ Tircuit, 58, and his 25-year-old son Michael Tircuit, both of Addis, were rescued from the water about 8:35 a.m. by St. Mary Sheriff’s Office deputies and transported to the Franklin Foundation Hospital for hypothermia treatment, the LDWF said.[…]

I found a new stand location at the Atchafalaya Delta WMA, with little hunter pressure and tons of deer and hog sign in the area. My first hunt resulted in the hog kill mentioned in my last article.

I was looking forward to finally getting a morning hunt, since the fog was finally not going to be an issue. I set up well before daylight, and could hear a deer walking slowly around feeding about 40 or 50 yards directly in front of my location. This was about 20 minutes before good light.[…]

New Iberia man sentenced for killing Louisiana black bear

A New Iberia man’s hunting privileges were stripped and he was sentenced to probation and a $3,000 fine for killing a black bear earlier this year, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries reported today (Dec. 22).

Federal Judge Patrick J. Hanna sentenced 39-year-old Cory R. Ronsonet to three years of supervised probation, three years of no hunting privileges, a $3,000 fine and 300 hours of community service, the LDWF said.[…]

The fog has really been hampering my bow-hunting plans down at the Atchafalaya Delta Wildlife Management Area. However, I was able to use my GPS to make it down there for a mid-morning hunt recently.

At 10:40 a.m., I saw a medium-sized hog walking on a trail through the tall cut grass. I had him at 35 yards, but he would not stop walking. I held off on the shot, and within a couple of minutes I could hear some loud cracking in the grass.[…]
